Page # 8 has been drawn on a 17 x 22, which makes the work for composition easier. However, it makes my work on the shape more difficult and I prefer to work on a bigger size, or eventually to work each panel separately.

Page # 9 has been done on a big 17,5 x 24,8, which makes me more comfortable !

La huitième planche a été dessinée sur un A 3, ce qui facilite le travail de composition. Cependant, cela rend mon travail de la forme plus difficile, et je préfère travailler sur un plus grand format, voire dessiner mes cases séparément.

La planche 9 a quant à elle été faite sur un format de 44,5 x 63 avec lequel je me sens nettement plus à l'aise !

Pardon pour toutes les choses qui disparaissent, et pour les changements dans l'ordre des posts. En fait, je range mon bazar ! :) )

For those who are interested, this ship does really exist ! She's called the Grand Princess, and she sails mediterranean sea for Princess Cruise company. I chose her for my Amazons comic, because she regularly goes till greek islands, and because her name makes a wink to Diana, who's a princess too :)

  
No need to tell it's a true nightmare to hand draw this kind of things, when you're not familiar with it. And no need to precise that all that is pure fiction. I'm the last person who would like to hear about a ship sinking, or about an accident including a ship.

Pour ceux que cela intéresse, ce navire existe réellement ! Il s'agit du Grand Princess qui sillone la mer méditerranée pour la compagnie Princess Cruise. Je l'ai choisi pour ma BD Amazone, parce qu'il se rend régulièrement jusqu'aux îles grecques, et parce que son nom fait un clin d'oeil à Diana, qui est princesse, elle aussi :)
 

Pas besoin de vous dire que dessiner ce genre de trucs à la main est un cauchemar quand on n'en a pas l'habitude. Et pas besoin de préciser que tout cela est purement fictif. Je suis la dernière personne qui aimerait entendre parler d'un navire en train de couler, ou d'un accident impliquant un navire.

After this previous post dedicated to the gorgeous Dolphins Cheerleaders, let's be serious again, with the sixth page dedicated to the gorgeous amazons ! :) )

I decided to stop using papyrus shaped narrative captions to express the narrative thoughts of Diana, and to come back to classic rectangles, the first ones seeming to eat too much of the drawings. Finally, my personal taste leads me to sobriety and all-purpose. I'll alterate the previous pages later.

For those who are interested, I also have started to work on a personal project which has no relation with the things I have already shown here (no super heroic things for example). In fact, my wish would be to make a graphic novel. I'll tell you about all that this winter, or next year.

Après le post précédent dédié aux belles Dolphins Cheerleaders, soyons de nouveau sérieux, avec la sixième page consacrée aux belles amazones ! :) )

J'ai décidé d'abandonner l'idée des cartouches narratifs en forme de papyrus pour exprimer les pensées narratives de Diana, les premiers semblant manger trop sur les dessins. En définitive, mon goût personnel me porte vers la sobriété et le passe-partout. Je ferai les changements sur les pages précédentes plus tard.

Pour ceux que ça intéresse, j'ai également commencé à travailler sur un projet personnel qui n'a aucun rapport avec les choses que j'ai déjà pu montrer ici (pas de trucs de super héros par exemple). En fait, mon envie serait de faire un roman graphique. Je vous en dirai plus cet hiver, ou l'année prochaine.

La planche 4 est d'apparence plus classique, elle est certainement moins dynamique que la précédente, et nous présente une scène de dialogue entre Diana et la Reine Hippolyte, sa mère.

Si vous suivez ce blog régulièrement, vous vous souvenez sans doute que j'ai souhaité doter Diana d'un physique de "femme femme" (je dis toujours que pour moi, elle a plus de 30 ans), typiquement méditerranéen de surcroît ! (c'est normal, puisqu'elle est grecque !). Je lui ajoute notamment une légère bosse sur le nez. Je reste convaincu que dans la vie comme dans la Bande Dessinée, ou en cinématographie, ce sont les petites imperfections qui font la beauté ou le charme d'un visage ! :)

Je ne sais pas trop pourquoi mais le paysage de la dernière case me fait penser à un décor de manga. Il me rappelle quelque chose que j'ai déjà vu. L'idée de représenter Thémyscira comme un assemblage monté sur de grands blocs faisant face à la mer est bien de moi ! Mes illustres prédecesseurs la représentent plutôt comme une ville gréco-romaine classique ! J'ai pour ma part eu envie de lui faire gagner de la hauteur, et de lui donner un aspect de forteresse. de façon à ce qu'elle se dresse encore plus fièrement face aux flots !

En revanche, je précise pour ceux qui ne connaissent pas la BD originale, que l'idée de suspendre des statues sur des colonnes à plusieurs mètres de hauteur n'est pas de moi, et qu'il s'agit bien d'un emprunt ! Très probablement à M. George Perez, qui donna au personnage et à son univers ses lettres de noblesse ! :) )

The fourth page is more classic, less dynamic than the previous one. It shows a scene of dialog between Diana and her mother, Queen Hyppolita.

If you follow this blog regularly, you surely remember I wanted to give Diana the physique of a "woman woman" (I use to say that, for me, she's more than 30 years old), and a typical mediterranean physique too (of course, she's greek !). Notably, I add a light hump on her nose. I'm definately convinced that, as in comic art as in real life, or in cinematography, the little imperfections are the key of the beautyful or a charming face ! :)

I don't really know why, but the landscape of the last panel reminds me the landscape of a manga ! I have already seen something like this somewhere. The idea of representing Themyscira as an assembling of blocks facing the sea is mine ! My famous predecessors usually represent it like a classical greco-roman city. My desire was to give highness to it, and to make it look like a kind of fortress. In order to make it face the sea with even more pride !

But I precise for those who don't know the original comic, that the idea of putting statues on high colums is not mine at all, it's a kind of borrowing ! Probably to Mr George Perez, who really gave the character and her universe her letters patent to nobility!

Diana poursuit son entrainement matinal dans la planche 3 ! L'idée de lui faire pratiquer le yoga m'est venue en pensant au personnage de la série télé "Highlander". J'aimais l'idée d'un personnage immortel ayant pu être initié à de très nombreuses disciplines ! Et je trouvais amusant que Diana ait pu être initiée au yoga, ce qui pourrait expliquer à la fois sa beauté et son exceptionnelle santé ! Et puis, je crois que personne ne l'avait montrée ainsi auparavant ! ;)

La fois porchaine, j'essaierai de lui faire pratiquer des arts martiaux, ça pourrait être très sympa !

Notre princesse pratique donc un yoga très aérien, et salue ce jour nouveau de quelques acrobaties matinales !

La première case figure une véritable posture de yoga, dessinée bien évidemment à partir d'un modèle photo. La différence est que Diana est capable de l'exécuter sans appui ! ^^

La case 2 est celle qui m'a posé le plus de difficultés ! Je ne savais pas qu'il pouvait être aussi difficile de dessiner un personnage se tenant la tête en bas, et j'ai du m'interroger sur la meilleure façon de valoriser Diana. Car c'est la première case où on ne voit pas son visage de profil ! J'ai dans un premier temps envisagé un gros plan sur son visage, mais le résultat m'apparut assez déséquilibré. J'ai donc opté pour une vue plus large mettant en valeur à la fois son visage, sa chevelure, mais également sa plastique.

J'ai pris énormément de plaisir à dessiner les cases 3 & 4, appréciant beaucoup le travail de la perspective et les recherche d'angles de vues.

Diana continues her morning training, in page # 3 ! My inspiration for making her practice yoga comes from the character of the TV show "Highlander". I liked the idea of an immortal character initiated to various disciplines. And I thought to have Diana initiated to yoga could be funny, that could explain her beauty and her amazing health ! And I think no one had showed her doing that before ! ;)

Next time, I'll try to make her practice some martial arts, it could be very nice ! :) )

So our princess practices a very aerial yoga, and greets the day with some acrobatics !

The first panel shows a real posture of yoga, the drawing of which is obviously based on a pic. But Diana can do it without any support ! ^^

The second panel has been the most difficult for me ! I didn't know to draw a character falling head first could be so difficult, and I had to decide how to valorize Diana. Because this is the first panel in which her face is not shown from profile ! My first choice was a close view, but the result on the whole page seemed unbalanced to me. So I did a larger view to have at the same time her face, her hair, and her body valorized.

As I enjoy to work on perspective and points of view, I had a great fun drawing panels # 3 and # 4.

The third panel of the first page has been obtained by a three points perspective, based on a grid. The depth effect is increased by the adding of the two statues on the foreground and on the middle ground, especcially the one on the foreground, which pops up clearly. The depth effect is also increased by the birds flight. By the way, I regret my text interfers with the bird at the top.

The fact to not put any shades on the background is also a way to valorize the foreground...

The angle of the second page has been digitally rotated, due to the fact the yoga posture was a little difficult to draw, even if it was based on a pic. So it was easier to do the pic and to rotate it after ^^ For the purists, this posture is a little exagerated here ! Normally, the arms don't go so much backward. But I couldn't hide Diana's face, don't you think ? :) )

La case 3 de la première planche est une perspective à trois points de fuite, obtenue à partir d'une grille. L'effet de profondeur est accentué par l'ajout des deux statues aux premier et second plans, en particulier bien sur, celle du premier plan qui se détache clairement du reste. La profondeur est également accentuée par le vol des oiseaux. A ce propos, je regrette un peu que mon cartouche se soit superposé à l'oiseau, sur le haut de la case.

Le fait de ne pas poser d'ombres sur le fond permet aussi de valoriser le premier plan...L'angle de la deuxième page a été renversé numériquement, en raison du fait que la posture de yoga était un peu difficile à dessiner, même à partir d'une photo. Il était donc plus simple de dessiner l'image et de la faire tourner après ^^ Pour les puristes, cette posture est ici légèrement éxagérée ! Normalement, les bras ne vont pas autant en arrière. Mais je ne pouvais pas cacher le visage de Diana, vous croyez pas ? :) )

Un dernier petit post pour ce mois de juillet, pour vous annoncer que je remonte sur mon petit nuage et que je reprends officiellement le travail sur ma petite BD de Wonder Woman ! Encore une fois, je compte prendre mon temps, car j'ai beaucoup de choses à faire en ce moment, notamment préparer les mois à venir, en termes de travail payé ! : P

Mais si tout va bien, vous verrez enfin d'ici la rentrée de septembre les 5 premières planches encrées et accompagnées de leurs dialogues (en anglais, de façon à ce que le plus grand nombre de gens puissent lire), et à partir de septembre de nouvelles planches, de storyboards, ou différents travaux de production. Il sera notamment question d'un gros bateau... ^^ :)

Afin de me consacrer à tout ça, j'abandonnerai un peu le blog dans les semaines qui viennent, mais comme je vous l'ai promis, je vous laisserai sous la protection du Corps des Lanternes Vertes pendant le mois d'août ! :) )

Voici le premier encrage, j'espère que vous aimerez l'ambiance ! :) )

A last small post to end july, to announce I go up again to my little cloud, and I officially bring myself back to work on my little Wonder Woman comic ! Once again, I won't hurry up, because I have a lot of things to do, in particular to prepare the months to come, in terms of paid work ! : P

But if all comes well, you'll see before september the 5 first pages inked, with their balloons (in english for the most numerous people can read), and since september, some new pages, storyboards, or various things related to the making of ! For example, we will deal with a big boat.... ^^ :)

So in order to focus on all that, I leave the blog for several weeks, but as I promised, I leave you under the protection of the Green Lantern Corps during august ! :) )

So this is the first inking, I hope you'll like the atmosphere ! :) )

As you can see, I haven't blackened the hair of the characters. I'll deal with all that stuff during the inking step. I'm currently hesitating between my usual way of inking and the way I used in the "experiments" I showed recently.... Or a compromise between those approaches.....

Whatever, you'll see an inking version of all that, with texts and dialogs in the weeks to come. I study, so I take my time.....

Comme vous le voyez, je n'ai pas noirci les cheveux des personnages. Je traiterai cette question à la phase d'encrage. J'hésite actuellement entre ma façon habituelle d'encrer, et la méthode que j'ai utiliée dans les "expérimentations" que je vous ai récemment montré.... Ou alors un compromis entre les deux...

Quoi qu'il en soit, vous verrez une version encrée de tout ça, dans les prochaines semaines avec des textes, des dialogues. J'étudie donc je prends mon temps.

Teaser page # 4 :)

A little teaser of coming page # 4. This page has been a nightmare to work on, due to a mistake I made in my storyboard. Which explains I'm in late. This is panel 2, representing Diana and Hippolyta.

I'm especcially happy with the body I gave to Diana. She's all the same feminine and soft, and at the same time tone and strong. She's "full" and we can feel the density of her body. According to me, it's very important to represent her like a "woman woman", and not a young woman. I already said it several times here, for me, she's at least 34.

I also tried to mix all my different ideas concerning her face. As you surely know if you follow this blog, and if you know the character, she's very difficult to find, because she could be qualified to be the sum of several characters in one. So I made a lot of versions of her appearance, always hesitating between her fairy tale beauty and the amazonian warrior side of her personality. My goal is to give her a kind of versatile face, sometimes very soft and lightened, sometimes very rough and serious. So I put some elements of masculinity in it.

The light hump on the nose is a tribute to the mediterranean woman :) Diana is greek, she comes from Mediteranean Sea, like me ! People of Mediteranean Sea consider themselves as members of the same family, it's an intuitive feeling deeply imprinted in our mind, coming from our History. All of us have travelled a lot on our sea for generations, and have some salt water in the veins. So much that it's very difficult for us to live in a place far from a sea or an ocean. It's a question of resonance :)

So Diana has a hump on her nose, because she's one of us :)

Funny detail, I have no hump on mine, because I'm a halfcaste, my mom comes from a river :)

Un petit aperçu de la planche 4. Cette planche a été un cauchemar, suite à une erreur dans mon storyboard, ce qui explique mon retard. Ceci est la case 2, représentant Diana et Hippolyte.

Je suis particulièrement content du physique que j'ai donné à Diana. Elle est tout à la fois féminine et douce, et en même temps ferme et forte. Elle est "pleine", et on sent la densité de son corps. Selon moi, il est très important de la représenter comme une "femme femme", et non comme une jeune femme. Je l'ai déjà dit à plusieurs reprises ici, pour moi elle a au moins 34 ans.

J'ai aussi essayé de mélanger mes différentes idées concernant son visage. Vous le savez sûrement si vous suivez ce blog, et si vous connaissez le personnage, elle est très difficile à trouver, parce qu'elle réunit en quelque sorte plusieurs personnages en un seul. J'ai donc réalisé plusieurs versions de son apparence, hésitant perpétuellement entre sa beauté féérique, et l'aspect martial typiquement amazone de sa personnalité. Mon objectif est de lui donner un visage de type versatile, parfois très doux et lumineux, parfois très dur, et sérieux. J'y ai donc mis des éléments masculins.

La légère bosse sur le nez est un hommage à la femme méditerrannéenne :) Diana est grecque, elle vient de la mer Mediterrannée, comme moi ! Les peuples de la Méditerrannée ressentent un peu tous le sentiment d'appartenir à la même famille, c'est un sentiment intuitif profondément inscrit dans nos esprits, ça nous vient de notre histoire. Nous avons tous beaucoup voyagé sur notre mer, depuis des générations, et nous avons de l'eau salée dans les veines, à tel point qu'il nous est en général difficile de vivre dans un endroit qui ne se trouverait pas proche d 'une mer ou d'un océan quelconque. C'est une question de résonance :)

Diana a donc une bosse sur le nez parce qu'elle est l'une des nôtres :)

Détail amusant, moi je n'en ai pas, car je suis métis, ma mère vient d'une rivière :)

Many of you surely wonder for a long time what's the secret of the beautiful body shape, and the umbelivable strengh of Wonder Woman ? :) )

Today, I give you the answer : Diana practices yoga ! :) )

So if you want to become a true amazon, a superwoman, now it's up to you, you know what to do ! :) )

Ha ha, no, seriously, let me give you a piece of advice : don't try to do this at home : if you're not trained, I guess it can be very painful ! :) )

Several things to say about this full page :

- First, for those who are interested in yoga, martial arts, and gymnastics, I must precise this is not exactly the right posture ! In the right one, the arms are not so backward and a big part of the face is hidden by them. But for the drawing, it would have been sad to hide Diana's face. So I let the things be :)

- Of course I took a photo reference ! I'm not a yogi, and whatever, to use some references and documents is a part of the job ! I even suppose in this kind of case, to trace over a pic isn't forbidden by the code, but I prefered to draw it really, without tracing. The more you face the difficulty, the stronger you become. For me, this is done to practice and improve my skills, so, it's not a loss of time.

- As you can see, I didn't put the shades under Diana, on the support. I just haven't decided the way I'll light the scenery, and I prefer to deal with these questions during the step of colouring. I don't master - and I don't like - hatchings and things like that, so, I do differently.

I gonna be very busy in the times to come, I have several things I want to draw and study, and I start leading a workshop for kids wednesday. Then, see you later in a few weeks, for page # 3, 4, and maybe 5 :)

Beaucoup d'entre vous se demandent sans doute depuis un moment quel est le secret du très beau corps, et de la force incroyable de Wonder Woman ? :) )

Aujourd'hui, je vous donne la réponse : Diana pratique le yoga ! :) )

Donc, si vous voulez devenir une vraie amazone, une superwoman, maintenant c'est à vous de jouer, vous savez ce qui vous reste à faire ! :) )

Ha ha, non, sérieusement, laissez moi vous donner un bon conseil : n'essayez pas de faire ça à la maison : si vous n'êtes pas entrainé(e), vous pourriez vous faire très mal ! :) )

Plusieurs choses à dire sur cette pleine page :

- Tout d'abord, à l'intention de ceux qui s'intéressent au yoga, aux arts martiaux, et à la gymnastique, je précise que ceci n'est pas la posture rigoureusement exacte ! Dans la véritable posture, les bras ne sont pas autant en arrière, et ils cachent une grande partie du visage. Mais pour le dessin, ç'aurait été bien triste de cacher le visage de Diana. J'ai donc laissé les choses comme ça :)

- Bien sur que j'ai utilisé une référence photographique ! Je ne suis pas un yogi, et quoi qu'il en soit, utiliser de la documentation et des références fait partie du boulot ! Je suppose même que dans ce genre d'hypothèse, décalquer une photo n'est pas interdit par le code, mais j'ai préféré faire le dessin réellement, sans décalquer. Au plus on se confronte à la difficulté, au plus on devient performant. Pour moi, c'est l'occasion de pratiquer et de m'améliorer, donc ça n'est pas une perte de temps.

- Comme vous pouvez le voir, je n'ai pas posé d'ombres sous Diana, sur le support. Je n'ai pas encore décidé de la façon dont j'éclairerai la scène, et je préfère traiter ça lors de la phase de mise en couleurs. Je ne maîtrise pas - et je n'aime pas - les hachures, et les trucs du même genre, donc je fais différemment.

Je vais être très occupé dans les temps à venir : je veux dessiner et étudier plusieurs choses, et je commence l'animation d'un atelier pour enfants mercredi. Rendez-vous donc dans quelques semaines pour les pages 3, 4, et peut être 5 :)

Wonder Woman est copyright Dieux de l'Olympe et DC Comics ! :D

Voici donc le nouveau look que j'ai eu envie de donner à ma version de Wonder Woman, dans le cadre de la petite démo BD que j'ai entamée. Il s'agit surtout d'une étude, donc.

Contrairement au dessin du message précédent, qui était résolument moderne, cette version lorgne du côté de l'Antiquité ! Elle se veut plus proche d'un physique guerrier, et d'un aspect méditerranéen. Je me suis tout simplement inspiré des femmes corses ou siciliennes ! :) )

Je me suis également inspiré de façon plus ou moins lointaine de Mesdames Lynda Carter, Jessica Biel, et Jaquelyn Roberts. Mais ça ne sera pas évident pour vous de les reconnaître dans mon dessin ! :) )

Je m'étais donné pour mot d'ordre de dessiner une lionne ! :) )

Here is the new look I wanted to give to my version of Wonder Woman, for the little demo comic I have started. Then it's a kind of a study.

Contrary to the drawing of the previous post, which was definately modern, this version is turned to Antiquity, closer to a warrior body shape, and introducing a mediterranean look-alike. I just inspired myslef from corsican or sicilian women ! :) )

I also took my inspiration - more or less - from Ladies Lynda Carter, Jessica Biel, and Jaquelyn Roberts. But I guess it won't be easy for you to recognize them in my drawing ! :) )

I gave myslef the order to draw a lioness ! :) )
