Masquerade, part V

Approximatively 8,5 x 11.... / A peu près un A 4....

This is the final result of my work on the Carnival of Venice. It has been a big pleasure for me to participate to this postal art experiment, because I wanted to draw on enveloppes for years.

As I said previously, this is a fictional representation of Venice, not the real scenery.

We are March, the 16th. For me, it's time to climb my skyladder up again, and to go back to my little cloud. I've got several secret stuff to do, so I won't give you any news before april.

Voici le résultat final de mon travail sur le Carnaval de Venise. Ce fut un grand plaisir pour moi de participer à cette expérience d'art postal, parce que j'avais envie de dessiner sur des enveloppes depuis des années.

Comme je l'ai dit précédemment, c'est une représentation imaginaire de Venise, pas le véritable décor.

Nous sommes le 16 mars. Pour moi, il est temps de remonter mon échelle céleste et de remonter sur mon petit nuage. J'ai plusieurs petits trucs secrets à faire, et je ne vous donnerai pas de nouvelles avant avril.

It is a big pleasure for me to reveal my illustration realized for the postal art exhib. I have chosen the thematic of Carnival of Venice. For this illustration, I haven't represented Venice like it is in reality, but I have prefered to create a scenery containing its significants elements. Above all, I wanted to represent some various types of characters, and it seemed impossible to me to valorize at the same time these characters and the real scenery.

For example, if I had drawn the real piazza San Marco, I would have been obliged to draw some small characters. At the contrary, to put the same characters on a same line, with the plazza in background, would have obliged me to cut a piece of this element.

C'est un grand plaisir pour moi de vous révéler mon illustration pour l'expo d'art postal. J'ai donc choisi pour thème le Carnaval de Venise. Pour cette illustration, j'ai préféré ne pas représenter la ville de Venise telle qu'elle est dans la réalité, mais de l'évoquer au travers d'un décor reprenant ses éléments significatifs. Je souhaitais avant tout représenter plusieurs types de personnages, et il m'a paru impossible de valoriser à la fois ces personnages et le décor réel.

Par exemple, si j'avais dessiné la vraie place St Marc, j'aurais été obligé de dessiner des personnages minuscules. Au contraire, aligner les mêmes personnages avec la place en arrière-plan m'aurait obligé à en couper un morceau.

/ J'ai choisi l'illustration que je réaliserai pour l'expo d'art postal. Je dessinerai ça sur mon enveloppe ! A bientôt pour le crayonné ! :) )

Masquerade, part II

I keep working on my postal art project dealing with the Carnival of Venice, looking for inspiration... : )

I also look for the composition of the illustration I'll draw on the enveloppe. I think I need to choose an option which will valorize either the disguised characters or the scenery....



By the way, we call this step "making stamps". Drawing the general composition of our page or drawing, on a small small frame, just to see what it could give. Someone told me it was interesting to discover all the process, so I just show it for those who could be interested. Whatever, and in my opinion, the most important step in the process of illustration is the draft.

Masquerade, part I

Dans le cadre de la Fête du Timbre en 2013, aura lieu dans la ville de Saint Brieuc une exposition d'art postal réalisée à partir de dessins réalisés par des enfants.

L'art postal est à rapprocher de la philatélie, puisqu'il consiste dans l'illustration sur enveloppes !

Afin de sensibiliser les enfants de la ville à cette forme d'art assez méconue, une pré-exposition sera organisée dans les écoles de Saint Brieuc dès septembre prochain. J'ai été contacté dans ce cadre par l'organisateur de cette pré-exposition, et c'est avec grand plaisir que j'ai accepté de lui faire une petite illustration !

J'ai choisi pour thématique le Carnaval de Venise, et voici les débuts de mes recherches, faites à partir de photos, bien entendu ! :) )

Je pense que je vais m'éclater ! A bientôt pour la suite ! :) )

An exhibition of postal art will take place in the city of Saint Brieuc in 2013, during the Fest of Stamp.

Postal art can be related to philately, in fact, it consists in drawing illustrations on enveloppes !

To realize a sensibilization of Saint Brieuc's children to this unknown kind of art, a pre-exhibition will be organized in schools since the next september. The organizer has contacted me, in order to ask me for an illustration, and I've been glad to say yes !

The thematic I've chosen is the Carnival of Venice, and this is my first studies, done with references pictures of course ! :) )

I guess I'll have a big fun ! See you for the following ! :) )
